After The Long Rains (2024) IFFR Rotterdam 2024

If you want to see one of the next great filmmakers then you must see Damien Hauser's AFTER THE LONG RAINS. Hauser has made a lovely little film that you need to see.

The film is the story of Aisha, a 10 year old girl in Kenya. She is given the homework assignment to figure out what she wants to be when she grows up. She wants to be a fisherman so that she can sail to Europe and become an actress. Her mother thinks that girls shouldn't fish. However one of the local fisherman is willing to teach her.

This is a special film. Forget that Hauser is only 22, this would be a smile producing film regardless of who made it. It's full of great people and unexpected turns.  It's a film where someone simply whispering "I love you" will make you cry. That's an achievement for anyone.

I love this. It's just so much fun.

I know the film just started it's public life at Rotterdam but you need to see this film when it gets near you and feel the love and get the smile. Additionally you need to see this because Damien Hauser is going to do go on to greater things and you are going to want to be able to tell your friends you were there from the start.

Highly recommended.
