ACCIDENT (2023) Slamdance 2024

This is the story of a woman whose life is falling apart. Her husband is leaving her, her daughter and her job. She ends up buying a tow truck...and then an opportunity arises.

Experimental comedy drama is a film that is going to split audiences. Told from a very definite point of view, namely the passenger seat of the truck, it's a move that is going to alienate some people while thrilling others. I'm not certain that it helps the story, which is kind of a downbeat comedy of errors.

To be honest I like the film, but I don't love it. For whatever reason I'm too hung up on how the film was shot to actually fully accept the film on it's own terms. (Though to be fair I'm planning on seeing it again after the festival where I can really sit with it a bit and not have to worry about the next film at the festival.)

Thinking about it this is a film that I suspect will have a long festival life, I can see this playing New Directors New Films or the more experimental slate at the New York Film Festival.

Should you see it. If you want a film that isn't your typical cinema fare- absolutely. Say what you will ACCIDENT is gloriously its own thing which makes it a must see for anyone who wants to stay away from typical Hollywood dreck.
