First We Bombed New Mexico (2023) Palm Springs international FIlm Festival 2024

This is the story of a cancer survivor who is working to help herself and her community who were affected by the fallout from all of the American bomb tests during the middle part of the last century.

Playing like a coda to the recent film OPPENHEIMER this film shows the damage done to the people who lived too close to the test sites. Radiation  fell all over them and their property and it was all kept a secret because of national security. Not that it mattered since many of the people affected weren't white so didn't matter. This is a shocking tale that is going to break your heart.

I really liked this film a great deal. To me it's a perfect companion piece to last year's DOWNWIND which covered the problem of fallout on a larger scale.
