This film follows conservative Christian Gail Ritchey, as she goes to trial for the murder of her newborn child thirty years ago. She had denied that she was pregnant and when she delivered the child, which she insists was still born she wrapped it in plastic and left it. The baby was found and an investigation was opened. Decades later a familial hit on a DNA website connected her to the child
Low key look at the question of one case of the phenomena of women denying that they are pregnant, in many cases, such as Ritchey, the women are not mean or evil just confused and emotionally broken. The result is they aren’t able to process the pregnancy
This is an interesting tale that exposes something that has happened too many times over the years. It’s a film that raises some issues that are going to make you think, such as is it really the right thing to do when the laws say that some one like Ritchey should go to jail for the rest of her life.
At the same time the telling is a little too low key for my taste and I drifted for a bit.
Still the film raises some important questions and is worth a look.
