Brief thoughts on To Use a Mountain (2026)

This is a deeply troubling film, about the problem of nuclear waste. Where do you put it? Sure you can bury it but what if something happens? What of the people down wind or who live on top of or near the storage facility.

I’m not going to say a great deal about this film, because you just need to see it. This is one of the best films I’ve seen on the problems of nuclear waste. It balances the need to explain both the human cost and the scientific issues of nuclear power and the waste it creates. It’s a film that manages to be emotionally moving while never over doing with the gloom and doom of the danger.

I went into the film expecting something rather straight forward.  I thought it would be a a lot of science and hand wringing but the truth is the film is much more. It gently grabs us and pulls us in so that we are forced to engage with the subject and not yes it to death.

This is a gem of a film and is recommended.
