The True Story of Tamara De Lempicka & The Art of Survival (2024) NYJFF 2025

This is a very good, if a bit too breezy look at the artist Tamara De Lempicka who managed to survive and thrive despite the ups and downs of the Nazis. She managed to make a career for herself while making sure that her family was well taken care of. In the process she created art that is iconic and has transcended the time it was created.

This is a good if a bit by the numbers documentary. It feels like it was created as a companion piece for the short lived Broadway musical on the artists life. That’s not a knock, but more an explanation why the cast and crew of the musical keeps showing up in the film.

I liked the film but at the same time it’s so frothy that by the time it was done I was ready for something else rather than wanting to do more reading.

Quibble aside it’s worth a look.
