Lela and he daughter June take a trip to the Azores on the anniversay of the dad's death. They are both going through their paces. Lost in their grief they try to have a good time and not notice the troubles in Iran. Taken on a tour by Joao, the pair find their interest in life returning.
Billed as a comedy drama this is more a drama with some humor. And it should be noted that the humor is from the situations not jokes. I mention this because there is a maudlin tone to the film that makes it hard to know what to feel. It seems to be trying to be funny but its presented like a drama.
The problem with the film is that you can feel the construction of the film. You can kind of count off what is going to happen when. You may not know the details but you know the path. You can feel the hands of the author all over this arranging scenes and most annoyingly having everything spelled out. Yes we need some form of exposition but we should find things out naturally not have the film pause to give us details.
It isn't fatal, but it keeps the film from being one we truly fall in love with. Honestly I saw the film, I went to the end, but Its not something I will ever revisit.
