A Russian Winter (2026) Berlin 2026

Patric Chia's A RUSSIAN WINTER is a look at young Russians who fled the country after Putin made it clear they would got to war in Ukraine or go to prison and that they dare not challenge the war.

Aiming to be more than just an examination of those who didn't want war and refused to be thrown into the war machine, the film is full of artistic image and heightened colors. Because many of those being interviewed have an artistic bend the discussions take an overly intellectual track. The problem is the issues at the heart of the film get lost in the artistic presentation. The people speaking seem more like posers then regular joe's trying to remain alive and fight the power.

My interest waned early as a young man in fashionable clothes and designer eyeglasses talked about leaving Russia and making himself a vagrant. Vagrant? with those glasses?

While I would love to see a discussion of how real Russians feel about the war in Ukraine, I never want to see this one again.
