This is a portrait of Cora Lee Witt a woman who was part of the FLDS whch is an off shoot of the Mormon church that practices polygamy and allows child brides. Refusing to remain quiet she created a rift between herself and the church and was cast out. Channeling her energy into a fairy tale called Snowland she tries to find her place in the world and come to terms with her past.
This mix of straight on documentary with animation is frequently something special. Creating a unique cinematic place this film becomes more than just a portrait of an outsider artist. (in a weird way some of this reminded me of Henry Darger).
I liked this a great deal.
