The history of comedy and the presidency.
This film is look at political humor. Its a film that charts the uneasy relationship between those in power and comedy. Its a frequently funny film that turns very dark when Donald Trump appears on the scene.
Actually this needs to be two films. Before and after Donald. The film shows clearly how a man who feels he is god and who possesses no sense of humor can crush the soul of a country. This film clearly shows how Trumps desire has stifled free expression.
What is find interesting is that watching how previous presidents handled the humor, Donald is seen to be weak and sad. For a guy who needs to have his masculinity confirmed at every turn the fact that he can't take a joke shows him to be little more than a child, a petulant one since he has said he'd like bad things to happen to those who get a laugh at his expense.
This film is vital and important. It is a chilling reminder that we must beware anyone who can't laugh at themselves.
