A pointer towards Ponderosa (2026) Tribeca 2026

Matt Schuchman (Den of Geek and Overdue Rentals)  insisted that I see PONDEROSA as soon a possible. The film had rattled his cage and he wanted to talk about it- but he need someone who had seen it to talk to. Intrigued I went to the P&I screening and belted in.

The film is about a young man named Zeke who is forcibly taken in by uber rich George who wants to be his surrogate dad and wants to teach him what it means to be a man.

This is a very deliberate film that you have to staqy with through the end credits in the hope of getting a handle on. I say that because most of the audience at the Tribeca P&I seemed to walk out before the end. And honestly if Matt hadn't insisted I stay with it I would have walked too.

Was it worth staying to the end?

I have no clue. I'm still trying to sort this film out. I have had several conversations about the film since I saw it and everyone has been doing the same thing. Anyone who has seen it doesn't know if it's good or bad, they simply can't shake it.

Should you see it? If you want a film you have to wrestle with until one of you dies, yes. If you refuse to engage stay away.
