Director Tamara Davis assembles the footage she shot in the summer of 1995 while she went on tour in Australia with her husband Mike D of the Beastie Boys. The tour was a package tour that included Sonic Youth, Foo Fighters, Beck, Pavement, Rancid, The Amps and Bikini Kill.
In many ways this is one of the best music docs you'll see. A film created was from the videos she shot to fill the time. She films the performances, the behind the scenes action and friend Kathleen Hanna doing interviews. Because the videos were just a friend shooting video around friends, everyone is open. There is a sense that what we see and the answers to questions are not the sort of thing we would have gotten had this been shot professionals.
I loved this film. I mean I really loved this film. I say that because early into the film I left the theater to email Wendy Feinstein who is a programmer at music doc fest. She had to screen this film... little did I know that she had reached out to the filmmakers after she saw the film at Sundance.
If you want to see what its really like being on tour- you need to see this film.
