ZEJTUNE (2026) Tribeca 2026

A young woman returns to Malta for her mother's funeral. She wants to get in and get out and never look back. Things become complicated when she discovers her mother had three plots of land worth a considerable amount of money. In order to get them she must make records of their physical location and file the appropriate paperwork. Figuring it won't take long she heads off, and ends up traveling across Malta with a smart ass folk singer.

One of the great finds of the festival, this is also one of the great films of 2026. This is the exact sort of off kilter, off the beaten path that I set up unseen FIlms to highlight. This is a film that takes us somewhere else and shows us a place and people we never knew existed but now we can never forget.

I did not want to see this film. I was planning on seeing something else, but the film was a dog so I went to this instead. Watching the film I went from this is not my cup of tea to, hey this is interesting, to this is fantastic. I was so up set that when I left the screening early to go see my next film I found the PR person and pleaded with them to get me a screener so I could watch the final ten minutes... that final ten minutes ended up being a half film rewatch one night and a whole film another night.

Yes, I love this film.

What I love about the film is that what we see are some very broken characters. Everyone has issues. No one is perfect. Everyone is on pins and needles waiting for the world to implode, but still plodding along because what else can you do?

What I also love is that the film doesn't end tidy. A good number of the plot threads are left open. There is an implication of closure but nothing certain. The result of this is a film that plays like life.

This is a gloriously one of a kind film. It is the exact sort of film that Unseen FIlms was made to champion.

A must see.
