Writer Nick Tosches is asked to help steal and the original manuscript of Dante's Divine Comedy.
The easiest way to explain this film is to say that you want to see this film for two things, the single scene with Al Pacino at the start and to witness Gerard Butler devour the scenery as foul mouthed hitman. Those two things are stellar and will be talked about for years.
The rest of the film can be flushed. Sure it exists because Julian Schnabel wanted some on to pay for him to go to Venice with friends, but he should have just taken out a loan instead of making something as awful as this. I have no idea what he was thinking.
Don't get me wrong, I like Schnabel as a director, he tells interesting stories about creation. I have no idea what this is.
Talking to the film's PR rep after seeing the film I was quized about what would make it better, Perhaps removing the dual time line. Perhaps not. Perhaps dumping this and starting over with a different cast and crew.
This film is a mess.
