SOLVENT (2025)

Johannes Grenzfurthner returns with the story of a clean-up team looking for hidden nazi documents in an abandoned farmhouse in Austria. They instead find something much more deadly.

A mix of knowing humor, horror and social commentary SOLVENT is a film only Grenzfurthner could have made. Like his earlier films which mix genres, this film mixes things up, horror & humor, straight narrative and POV, with disturbing results. Things are off in the director's world, and he uses that to his advantage to provoke an uneasy reaction.

For me the reason the film works as well as it does is framing of the story and the editing which mashes in real world concerns which makes this seem more like a real investigative doc rather than a work of fiction. We know it isn't real but it makes us drop our guard down just enough to let the emotion drift in. There is real evil here

I like the film and its off-kilter nature.
