12 Tableauex of Fogo Island in Newfoundland Canada.
Best viewed on a large screen, this film is simply 12 long shots over 70 minutes where people sit, kites fly, kids play in the sea, segulls are fed, the wind blows. There is no plot. there are simply 12 moments in time.
Its beautiful to look at. It is also something that would work best as an installation in a museum (which is what it was designed to be, playing in the National Gallery of Canada). As anything beyond that it's open to personal interpretation. For me it was nice, but outside of the seagulls being fed and the twilight swimming sequence this was nice, but nothing I need visit again.
While this sort of film used to fill the Current section of NYFF when it was the Avant Garde sidebar, it's also a clear indicatoir of why they changed things up, tastes changed and audiences didn't exactly flock to see films like this.
If you like films like this its a must see (it is beautiful) if not look elsewhere
