Capsule Review- Crime (5/12/12)

The Mystery Train
Hedda Hopper plays a rich woman who was wiped out. Using a paroled young woman as a stand in for her niece she hopes to use the girl to catch a rich husband and save her way of life (she wants a necklace worth 250 grand that goes to the bride). What she doesn't count on is that the girl and the rich guy fall in love of their own accord and outside of her control. Complications arise because of the girls past and because she doesn't want to rake him over the coals. Solid potboiler moves like the wind with out an exteneous moment anywhere in it. It also has an exciting climax on a runaway railcar. Definitely worth a look

Non-Stop New York
Okay crime drama about a girl who witnesses a crime in London and is hunted by the criminals who know she can put them at the scene. She eventaully ends up on a plane across the atlantic where everything comes to ahead. If it wasn't for it's futuristic plane setting in the final part there wouldn't be anything to make the film stand out.

Ticket to a Crime
Just okay programer about a detective hired to find out what happened to 50 grand in missing jewelry, At a fancy dress party the man who hired him is killed and he has to work with the police to solve it. Ranbling film just didn't work for me. It hits way too many cliche notes and takes forever to get going and to me I never cared. Sure the detective secretary is a babe in glasses but she's not enough reason to watch.
