What The Tide Dragged In (2025) Popcorn Frights

Two sisters go to the beach to spread their mother’s ashes. After one goes in the water something isn’t quite right with her.

Very deliberate horror film from Chile takes its time and builds a mood. Actually, it opens with something that had me sit up and take notice. At that point I was willing to go anywhere with it.  I was willing to let it go and do what it had to and I was richly rewarded by the pay off. There was a moment where something happens and I audibly reacted with an “oh crap”. At that point the chills really set in as I realized what was going on. It was like suddenly finding out that somewhere along the way someone slipped me into a coat of horror.

This is a super film.  It’s a perfect example as to why jump scares and loud noises aren’t what you want to have if you want a film to hang with your audience for days afterward.

Recommended.
