A petty thief gets catfished by a lonely hearts pen pal...who is unaware that that the thief is not who he says he is.
See this film.
See this film and stay with it.
I say that because this is a film that this film, part film noir and part autobiographal confessional is unlike almost any film you've seen. It's not that what we are see is on the face of it anything new. We've seen stories like this before, however what sets this film apart is what writer director and star Kenny Riches does with the material. Reshaping the material so that we get characters and shadings we haven't quite seen before Riches has created a film that makes us lean in. We know this is not going to end well, but we can't look away. We don't look away because there is something here that looks the right sort of different.
I squirmed in my seat. I winced at some of the turns. I didn't want to watch this go off the cliff- and then...
Well, that will be telling.
I really liked this film.
While I will not lie and tell you that this is the greatest film you'll see all year, I will say it's most certainly one of the more entertaining films of the year. It's a wonderful gem of a film- more so if you a noir film.
