POTOPA / FLOOD (2026)

In a small town in Czechoslovakia a daughter and her father butt heads. She wants to get out of the town and away from the farm. Her father wants her to stay. Soon however the choice will be made for them as the government plans to flood their valley to make a reservoir.

Based on what happened to the Rusyn people when the Czech government moved the population of several small towns to make a Starina reservoir; FLOOD is a film that mixes your typical generational clash film with a look at what do you do when your home and the part of the world that makes you who you are is going to be wiped from the world. It’s a film that uses the real world situation to make the generational battles and the potential loss of the younger generation moving away really hit home.

This is a well-made film that uses its mix of experienced and first-time out actors to great effect. This frequently plays out less as a written narrative than as a documentary.

If the film has any real flaw it is the film’s pace is a tad slow. Sequences go on, and while that gives the film a lived in quality, it also makes the narrative seem to stall. Its not bad, but it make what should have been a great film  a very good one.

Quibble aside, FLOOD is recommended.
