A landscape film exploring the battle field of 1949's Battle of Guningtou in Taiwan.
Images of the battlefield mix with portions of text, to make a film that is trying to explore the legacy of the Chinese Civil War and how we view the past. It's a film with a wonderful sense of place.
As engaging as the film is at the start there is a point where the feature length works against it. While I would have no issue Wandering around the battlefield all day there was a point where I started to drift at the forced perspective. Honestly I would have liked this better as a long short.
That said the images are compelling and this is worth a shot if you can see it on a big screen.
