I like you as much as I like history
This is a mannered & deadpan dry comedy about a high school squash club that doesn’t play squash. It seems that one of the members wanted to start a club but needed four people to make it work so friends agreed to join. Things become complicated when they actually have to play in a match. This further complicates things with their private lives as well.
This is a funny and knowing comedy that I enjoyed, but which I didn’t fully give myself over to. Blame the very deliberate construction which made me think that the director was trying to let us know things were funny. For example, the opening break up scene where there is not so much emotion and obtuse reasoning (I like you like I like history). Its funny but it’s also kind of disconnected. I liked it while it was on but I’m not sure I need to revisit.
Worth a look if you like mannered humor.
