A mother mourning the death of her husband during a sacred fast, is visted by her daughter who is worried about her. Her mother's grief had pushed her away, however a silence has made her return home.
Vinamrata Singal's film is a small gem of a film. Why do I say yes to unsolicited films? Becauase more often then not I find little treasures such as this.
A small capture of a moment in time, AFTER MOONRISE nicely reveals the depth of emotion families have even with those who unintentionally drive us away. We do make each other crazy, but at the same time there is love.
I was moved.
Playing a full up community screening in New York's Chinatown as part of a Welcome to Chinatown event, AFTER MOONRISE is a film to track down.
Vinamrata Singal’s short film AFTER MOONRISE is an excellent sensitive emotional film on mother daughter relationship. A treat to watch. Worth visiting from Louisville KY for me. For the whole 12 minutes, there was a feeling that I am watching a feature film. When it ended the feeling was why it ended! Kudos to the whole team. It was an honor to meet one of the actors Issra (played Simran, the daughter), Michael the DP, Maria one of the producers, and above all Vinamrata, the director. It was also nostalgic and bonus to hear the voice of my wife Anjna Singal, the translator / narrator in a scene, and meet my niece Suyasha who traveled from DC. Overall time well spent and look forward to seeing it again in 2 weeks with rest of the family in Austin. Good wishes for many more and bigger successes in life to Vinamrata.
