Yuichi Jibiki, a photographer from the sticks, ends up chronicaling the early days of punk rock in Japan.
One of my favorite films at this years NYAFF, this is a shot of nostalgia of the finest kind. Its a look back at the early days of punk that plays much more real than many Hollywood films of similar type. I like that events just seem to be transpiring and not being forced. Jibiki doesn't feel like he's being inserted into events, he feels like he's part of it, even if he's on the fringe. Yes, this is Jibiki's story but it is also the story of the music and director Tomorowo Taguchi allows them both to exist as their own things.
I had a blast. This is a great collection of music and people. I was enjoying the film so much that when it ended I wanted to go again right away.
Recommended.
