Goodbye Monster (2026) Fantasia 2026

Luke Barnett‘s GOODBYE, MONSTER is a masterpiece. It is a perfect comedy horror short that hits every button and then some.

The plot of the film has the monster under a kids bed waking him up to tell him goodbye. He’s a teen and now time to go on. What follows is, for a brief moment exactly what you expect. And then Barnett just goes for it and he makes an absolutely perfect confection. ( I will not ruin it for you)

This is absolutely as perfect a film as you will see all year. In a year where I am seeing so many filmmakers unable to get their narrative to work, Barnett crafts a film that  should be taught in schools. Everything you need for a story to work is there- but more importantly so is everything that you need to delight an audience and have them take your art into their souls and be carried with them. I now have a couple of lines that will live forever in my brain.

And the performances are dead nuts on target with some of the inflections likely to have tears of laughter running down your cheeks. (There is a delivery of one line that destroys me when I think about it)

God bless Luke Barnett.

This is just a great film and one of the absolute bests I’ve seen in 2026. Track this film down.
