Based on a web novel KINKI is the one truly scary film that I saw at NYAFF. Its the one film with chilling moments that were not undercut by humor. I know that there are a few others playing the festival but I was not given access to them.
I'm not going to say much but the film begins with the disappearance of an editor of supernatural books. The film then shifts into the investigation which has something to do with urban legends and a certain part of Japan.
I had a blast. Here at last was film with lots of thrills and chills. I really wish I had a chance to see this in a theater where the audience reaction would have made it all the more fun.
