Vietnamese romantic drama about a translator from the North beginning a romance with a widow from the South in the days after the end of the war.
This is a small little romance set in a place most of us have never been. Growing up during the war my impressions of the Vietnam from the same period are that of a war-torn country with bomb craters everywhere. I’m wrong of course, but that was what I thought as a child. This film sets the record straight and in doing so gives us a super little drama.
While I don’t think the film’s attempts at using The Little Prince for deeper resonance always work, I think the film as a whole is a small gem. This is exactly the sort of film you should see if you want something far removed from Hollywood.
