When a man kills another for revenge outside a theater where a performance of a well know revenge tale has just been performed, everyone sees it as a justified homicide and life goes on. However, sometime later a samurai appears and begins to look into the matter and soon everyone’s story begins unraveling.
A murder mystery meets Rashomon in a tale that wanders between highly theatrical and real life. It’s a film that isn’t fully resolved until the final fade out.
I enjoyed SAMURAI VENGEANCE. I loved its mix of styles to tell its story. For someone who sees way too many films every year it’s nice when someone does something out of the box. I don’t think it's perfect, I think some of the gamesmanship gets in the way, but at the same time the film held me from start to finish as I waited not so patiently to find out what happened.
Definitely worth a look.
