In 1977 Japan, when women were still expected to be subserviant to men, a woman decides to raqise her daughter as a single mother.
One of the great finds of the year, FUJIKO is a glorious celebration to women and their ability to kick ass and change the world.
I went into this film not really knowing what it was and I came out of it loving it. Unsing some conventional forms, FUJIKO turns our expectations on their ear. Yes the story is conventional to some degree, but the character of Fujiko isn't. Watching her, and the film is like watching your typical housewife turn into a punk rock star of stage and screen.
This film made me laugh and cry for all the right reasons.
An absolute delight.
