Manila's Finest (2025) NYAFF 2026

In 1969, as the country undergoes change, a police officer has to deal with political protest, moral bankruptcy and murder.

Deliberately shot, often on articial sets, MANILA'S FINEST is a look at the slide of  a good man into a kind of moral decay. Its a film that has a great deal to say about that state of the Philippines and on some level society as a whole. While it frequently makes its points, they aren't as strong as they should be since the directors are insiting on making sure we catch what they are doing. The result is this is less a drama and more a polemic. Additionally the film frequently feels like this will play better if you know the history it is portraying. I only had the vaguest of of notions and I kept feeling like I was missing something.

Is this bad? No, but I think this going to play better for someone who is more connected to the events.
