Nicolas Provost head trip bending of the Las Vegas Skyline into something alien and wickedly cool.
The calera passes along the nighttime skyline of the city and the artist reflects it back on itself with the result that we are now no longer in Vegas but out in space and the city is huge spaceships or more likely some where else where giant object drift by. Maybe its a real life video game...
And it's not the parts we recognize thats facinating it's the parts that aren't the parts where the reflections connect that are wild
I wish I had seen this huge-huge and in 3D- dear god that would be so wickedly awesome....
You have to track this down and play it really big and sit way up close. This is beyond cool.

Nicolas Provost - Papillon d'amour (2004)
I can't review this I can only share it.
This is a bit of Akira Kurasowa's Rashomon manipulated. Its as perfect as sound and image marriage as I've seen. Its now one of my favorite films of all time because it provokes a visceral reaction each time I watch it. I'm floored each time I see it.
Give it a shot- and if you like it even a little track down Provost's work where you can because he's amazing- he's now one of my favorite directors.

Oh Dear (2004
Nicolas Provost's minute long film about a bunch of kids go cart racing is an absolute delight.
This glorious short film, with amped up colors and a very intentional look perfectly expresses the joy I find in short films in that it takes small moments and then gets off. I love that it takes you to a perfect cathartic moment and then is done. Short films don't get much better than this.
The film was commissioned by the International Film Festival Rotterdam and can be found on Provost's website here. Take the time, the film is only a minute and it will make you smile.

Suspension (2007)
Because it’s really not possible to review a six minute abstract art video with more than “Oh Wow- why can’t I see this on a huge screen” I will say that I did see Nicolas Provost‘s Suspension and it blew me away.
A six minute mirrored image of “clouds” in forward and reverse is a purely visceral experience where the image, there is no sound, grabs hold of you and sucks you in. Your eye bounces from bit to bit trying to make sense of what you’re seeing, adding in details, faces and forms that aren’t there in a never ending metamorphosis of white, black and grey.
Seeing this was one of my favorite things in 2014 so far- with the really annoying thing being I could see it only once, I couldn’t stop it and I couldn’t rewind it.
Track this down- preferably somewhere where you can see it really big.
