Jinsei (2025)

This is the arc of a life over 100 years. From being an outcast in school as a child, to meeting a friend, becoming an idol, to death and beyond.

This is a hell of a film. Less a conventional cinematic narrative, this plays like an inde comic book come to life. Scenes are very structured like on a comic page. There is limited motion (which is understanbdable sinc writer director Ryuya Suzuki did this all on his own). There are silences where the image is supposed to convey the information. There are silences. Words are at a minimum.

This is absolutely a one of kind work of art. It is a film that many people are going to fall head over heels in love with. It is also a film that a lot more people are not going to get. I understand that this is not a conventional film, nor is it a conventional animated film. The style requires that the audience work with the director. We have to fill in gaps. It doesn't move like the wind. If you can go with that you will love this.

If you want an off the beaten path film, one that isn't Hollywood and one of a kind, try JINSEI (Life) when it plays near you.
