A teen kid who can see the dead is haunted by a demon who wants to take him over.
This is a film with a lot of heart.
Made on a micro budget and a lot of heart, THE DEAD PLACE is rough around the edges film. Its a film that works because the cast leans into the horror and doesn't play it for laughs. I was hooked at the start as a a young man staggers into an abandoned building. There is a realness to it that most horror films never have. The wounds and the blood are not movie blood, but something closer to real. The sequence weirdly plays as an almost documentary. I leaned in.
I'm kind of uncertain if I should say much more. It's not that the film is bad, rather it's my inclination to be a "critic" and nit pick the film. With a film like this, a film that was made with love and fighting long odds, it isn't fair to pick.
Instead I should just say, see this film. See it and just take it on it's own terms. Its a small gem.
