HARD HAT RIOT is the story of the clash of the left and the right in 1970. Student protesters collided with construction workers in lower Manhattan as the two sides came to blows as to how to best support the country.
In someways mirroring the clash between the left and the
MAGA movement, the film highlights how the right’s insistence of backing the
government regardless collided with the left’s wanting a better way. Stoked by Nixon’s
desire to remain in control he stoked the fires of division so that people didn’t
talk in the common ground. We can see Trump’s throwing out buzz words to make
people crazy.
On a historical note the film clearly shows us the divide
that was in America. Having lived through the time, as a small boy, I could remember
the feel of the time. I remember the divisions that existed and how in some
circles hippies or being left wing was a bad thing. It’s a film that shows us
the divide really hasn’t closed.
