I am in Pittsburgh for the Drive In Monsterama in nearby Vandegrift PA and I stopped with my brother at the Monroeville Mall where George Romero filmed his DAWN OF THE DEAD.
The mall is a tourist attraction because of the film. It houses the the Living Dead Museum. It has a tribute to Romero at one end of the mall and Mr Rogers at the other. It also hosts several conventions geared to celebrating the Romero Dead films.
It was also sold recently....and the plans which were recently announced, sent shock waves throw the people in the mall this afternoon...
Apparently Walmart has bought the mall and after not being specific as to plans recently announced that they will be bulldozing the mall before 2027. Originally I had been told that the city of Monroeville wanted to keep the mall intact, but that doesn't seem likely now. Walmart is going to use the property to build yet another mega center acccording to the tenents that I spoke with.
I don't know what the details are, I just know that the people who were in the Romero area of the Mall were upset at hearing the news.
I am mentioning this because if you ever wanted to go to the mall and walk where the zombies did, you go sooner than later
