Several hundred years after a climate disater caused society to fall and some atomic bombs to drop, bullets are currency. A young woman hires a lone wanderer to take her a walled city several days away. Almost immediantly they are hunted by roving bands mauraders.
This is a form over content film that looks spectacular. It has attitude to burn and some truly spectacular set pieces (and a couple of clunky ones). If you can go with this being an uneven film you are going to love this film.
The problem with the film is that the script is gets lost in the flash. The booming score overwhelms the plot, which is a shame because while the film is good, the sense of the world that is created promises a film that would have been great had they leaned more into the plot. For me the plot threads that we get, especially in the final section of the film, make me want someone to remake this. The end of the film and the final turn made me realize the gulf between what the film was and what it should have been.
Don't get me wrong, LAST RONIN is a popcorn film you'll like, but it will make you want more, and if you are okay with that give it a shot.
