The Piano Accident (2025) Fantastic Fest 2025

Quentin Dupieux is back with a pointed tale of our social media world.

Adele Exarchopoulos stars as a media infulencer who does crazy stunts. She is unable to feel physical pain. When she is injured in a stunt involving a piano, she retreats into a remote home where she has to contend with a blackmailing journalist with ties to her past and two local guys who just wander through to get selfies.

One of the more normal Dupieux films, is also still cockeyed. While the story is more or less straght forward, the whole social media circus, of being on line and being famous for not really doing anything of value bends the narrative. Seemingly weird things happen which actually seem to be normal in a social media influencer world.

I was mostly amused.

At the same time I didn't quiet love it the way I do some of the other of the directors films. Part of it is this film is almost too normal. This is very much a slice of life. Additionally we really don't like anyone on screen, so its hard to fuly connect.

Still, the film does make some valid points about the would today so it's worth a look.
