Demon Mineral (2024) Slamdance 2024

This is a look at how the mining of Uranium has deeply affected the Navajo Nation. Because the they aren't white and European the US government didn't remotely care what happened. As a result they were harmed by the waste from the mines (not to mention the fall out from the tests).

This is a haunting and personal film. Told by members of the Navajo Nation who live in the affected land we are give a deep dive into their lives and what they have had to endure of the last eight decades. Because the filmmakers get up close and personal we are brought as close as possible short of traveling their ourselves to see what the mining has done to the people and the land they hold sacred. And thanks to some Ansel Adams like images we come to love the land as much as the Navajo.

This is a beautiful film that is going to make you fall in love with the people and the land and as such it is going to piss you off at how they have been abused and harmed.

If you liked Oppenheimer then you should see DEMON MINERAL. I say that because this film lays out the damage making the bomb caused. While its hinted at in in a few stray tossed off line, here we come to understand the unseen and uncared about damage it did to thousands of people.

See this film...

...and if you can see it big in a theater where the images will truly give you a sense of the people and the places that have been affected.
