HAFEKASI (2023) Tribeca 2023

Tongan Australian girl begins to see that she is different than the rest of her white mother and family.

Top prize winning short film at this year's Tribeca is genuinely one of the best shorts of the festival. It's a film that doesn't play as a narrative but as a documentary. The performances  seem to be lived in, with each turn of the narrative feeling natural and pulled directly from real life.

It's a film that is so beautifully crafted, so close to real life that I want to see what writer director Annelise Hickey would do with a feature film. I would love a feature expansion of this story, I want to see more of this story, but I'm willing to take anything I can get from her.

This is an absolute wow of a film. This film is the calling card of a great filmmaker
