The first film I saw for Tribeca set the bar impossibly high. AMERICAN SIKH is a small masterpiece that you need to see.
The film is the story of Vishavjit Singh, the American Sikh of the title. He was a man who struggled with his identity until one day he dressed as Sikh version of Captain America and discovered that the prejudice seemed to melt away.
One of the great films of 2023 this film will give you a hell of a lot to chew on. It's a stunning look at how we see ourselves as well as how other see us. Its a film that turns notions of hating people who don't look like us on their ear since why should a costume make a difference.
This film is so good you are going to want to watch it again immediately-which is what I did-several times.
AMERICAN SIKH is not only a vital and important film, but something more important- a highly entertaining one. Its this fact that is important because it makes the vital and important points take root in your soul where they can grow and make a difference.
An absolute must see at Tribeca-or wherever.
