Deciding Vote (2023) Tribeca 2023

In 1970 Representative George Michaels committed political suicide by changing his vote from against to for the New York abortion bill. This film is a celebration of the man who did what he felt was the right thing to do even at the cost of his position.

George Michaels was a rarity in politics. He was a man who took care of the people who elected him but also did what was the morally right thing to do. While he agreed to vote against the bill, discussions with his son and daughter in law as well as the realization about how many women were dying or being injured by back alley abortions made him change his vote. It was a brave thing to do and it changed the world forever.

Jeremy Workman and Robert Lyons have made a deeply moving film about a true hero. Highlighting a story most people don't know they not only open up history that we need to know. They also remind us, in an age where politicians are only in it for the money they will make, there once was a time when the people who represented us did what was truly right, not right for the noisey minority.

DECIDING VOTE is one of the most important films of 2023 and one of the most moving as well.
