Disney's second PG film was once a cable TV staple and is now largely forgotten. In an age of nostalgia I'm kind of hard pressed as to why that is. Admittedly it isn't the greatest film ever made but it is one that entertains. I suspect that some one at Disney wants the film buried, even if it can be rented for a price.
The film is the story of five college teams in a scavenger hunt. They are given clues that take them all over the place during the course of the evening. David Naughton (American Werewolf in London) stars, Stephen Furst (Animal House) and Eddie Deezen also apprear, though the most interesting cast member is Michael J Fox in his first role.
I have yet to meet anyone who ever saw this in theaters. The film seems to have been barely released. I know the film was on VHS but I don't know anyone who ever rented it. Everyone I know used to watch this on HBO endlessly. Scavenger hunts were inspired by the film. It s a film I remember seeing at friends houses and when friends came over. It was never a film I ever wanted to see.
Rewatching the film for this underseen 1980's Disney project I found it was amusing. It was better than I remembered but also incredibly TV sitcom like but with slightly more mature themes. Remember Disney may have made it but they distanced themselves from it.
Are you going to like it? Yes probably, but the mad love the film has in some circles is going to be reserved for those who loved it when they were growing up
