This is a portrait of carpenter Shelley Halstead, who is teaching Black women who to use carpentry and other skills in order to allow them to renovate homes in a rundown section of Baltimore. The idea is that if they can renovate their homes, they will bring the neighborhoods back.
This is a wonderful portrait of a woman trying to save her city one woman and one home at a time. It's a great look trying to make a difference in her city and making a seismic change. It's a story that will make you smile and wonder why this isn't being done in other cities.
While the film is playing at DOC NYC, the film may end up being one you will have to search out. Running 67 minutes, the film has an odd running time which may make this something that may not play near you, so keep your eyes out for it at festivals or elsewhere since this is a film you will want to see, and Shelley is someone you need to meet
