Love Ya Bum (2025) hits VOD Tuesday

Portrait of Oail Andrew "Bum" Phillips Jr.who coached the Houston Oilers into becoming a playoff contender. The film charts his life and influence  on and off the field.

This is a very good, if somewhat run of the mill sports biography. Interviewing a wide variety of people who knew him or admired him, the film is a time capsule when the game of football was radically different than the glitz and glamour of todays game.

I liked the film a great deal. Phillips was coaching just as I was starting to discover football so watching the film was a nostalgia trip for me. Watching the clips I was reminded of when I was a kid watching broadcasts on Sunday afternoons.

While the film doesn't do anything new, it mostly tells it's tale quite well, with only Dennis Quaid's narration acting as a weak point since he doesn't seem to have the proper passion for his subject.

If you like football, especially way back when this film is a must when it hits VOD Tuesday.
