1980's dystopian action film crashes into film noir as a young man named Henry, also known as Violence, tries to save the love his life from drugs and the gangs over the course of a long night.
This is set an alternate 1980s where the world is post apocalyptic but doesn't know it. Its a neon lit world where the strong crush the weak and everyone is doomed for sins real or uncommitted. Its the sort of world that might have been viewed as the future 40 years ago.
Violent and hard edged, VIOLENCE is a rare modern film these days that apes the style of films from an earlie decade and gets it right. While very much a mordern film, it still feels like it was spawned some where around 1985. I'm impressed because more often then not films like this feel like dress up, not like they were lived in. The world bleeds off the screen.
While the film doesn't do anything new, it does what it does so well that you won't care. You'll just want to see how this goes and if Henry can actually save himself and his girl.
