Portrait of Robert A. Nakamura, aka “The Godfather of Asian American film,” by his son, Tad.
What a glorious film. This is a celebration of the man and the love his son feels for him. I should hope that if any of us get a film made about us it is made with as much feeling as THIRD ACT.
While this film celebrates the elder Nakamura and places his body of work which charted the role of Asians in America into the spotlight, the odds are you are going to come out of the film remembering the wonderful people on screen. When the film ended, I wanted to go again just because I wanted to hang out with everyone.
That may not be the deepest review in the world about the details about the film's subject, however it speaks volumes about Ted's ability to make a film that is a reflection of life. I wanted to see the film again because I wanted to connect to the family on the screen. I wanted to live in that place. Tad Nakamura hasn't just made a wonderful portrait of his father's life, but one of life itself.
This film is magic and the emotion and love in it will live on in your heart long after the film finishes.
Highly recommended
