Anuparna Roy (SONGS OF FORGOTTEN TREES) returns to Venice with a film with a large film that doesn't work as well as her previous film.
Nominally the film film tells the story of four people, a woman, her gay husband, a thief and a pimp. How they interact is the film.
Where I liked her previous film, this time out I really didn't fully connect with Roy's film. The there are too many threads and all of them seem to get short changed. I'm not fully certain why they all needed to be in the mix or why the stories were being told this way. While the threads should be fine, there is something about the mannered and guarded telling that didn't work for me.
I found it to be a miss.
