Uprooted - The Journey of Jazz Dance (2020) Dance on Camera

I normally don't cover Dance on Camera. I don't go out of my way to do dance related things unless I see something that makes me go "yes". I only agreed to cover the films because the Covid Crisis has made the pickings slim. I also told the PR people for the fest just to send the few films they recommended. If they hadn't sent UPROOTED I would have missed one of the biggest smiles of the year.

UPROOTED is the story of Jazz Dance, a kind of freestyle form of expression that grew along side Jazz as people simply moved to the music. You have seen Jazz Dance everywhere from dance clubs to Broadway to TV and odds are, if you are not a dance person like me you never were fully aware of the classification.

And with that I am going to stop talking about the dancing because if I continue I will get emails complaining I got it wrong and that I don't know what I'm saying. (I don't)

What I will say is that this film put a 90 minute smile on my face. I absolutely loved the dancing and the music. I loved the people being interviewed and explaining what I was seeing. This is quite simply a delightful film that is full of life and motion.  While I am not a huge dance fan I loved everything I was seeing.

What a great film.

I am not certain what the release plans are for this film but I expect this to end up with a long life on PBS for any number of reasons chief among them is it is a so much fun.
