Camden 2019 Capsule Reviews: SCATTERING CJ and CHÈCHE LAVI

SCATTERING CJ
Incredibly heavy and emotional documentary about a mother's plan to give he son a grand last adventure by scattering his ashes across the globe with the help of strangers.

You will forgive the lack of discussion but this is a raw and real and deeply moving film. It is like touching a live nerve that fires off joy and sadness copious amounts often at the same time. For those willing and wanting to go there this is going to be deeply affecting. For others this ill be a maudlin slog. You'll know which camp I'm in when I say bring tissues.

CHÈCHE LAVI
Important portrait of two Haitian men trying to cross the border into the US fro Mexico and what happens during their months long wait to have their cases heard.

At a time when there is so much talk about legal and illegal immigration into the US this film puts a face on the situation. In the case of the two men at the center of our tale they are forced to sit and wait and try to make a living just to survive until they can get to the next step. It is a film the beautifully shows us what the US policy actually means on a human level. This is a film that you need to see so that you can begin to have a  discussion on the issues raised because until you see this you probably don't really understand things the way you think you do.

Highly recommended.
