Ne Me Quitte Pas (2014) Tribeca 2014

Playing more like a off key inde drama rather than a documentary this is the story of two men bound by friendship and alcohol. Its a mess that never really feels real.

The film follows Marceland Bob. Marcel's wife leaves him, takes the kids and all the furniture. This sends him spiraling into deep alcoholism. Over the course of the film we watch as the two friends orbit each other, Marcel tries to dry out and other events over the course of a year or so.

I know this is supposed to be a documentary but something about the film that feels staged. Most of the scenes are staged so the two men or whom ever is on screen are sitting and talking. And there are questions not the least of them is How did the filmmakers know to be there when  the marriage go south? I'd also like to know how the filmmakers were allowed to wander around the hospital.during the drying out.

And there are other issues, not the least of which what the point of this all is about. On some ever there is just a series of sequences of guys sitting around getting drunk, talking about suicide and drinking some more. Why am I seeing this? I have no clue, and any answers that are in the promo material  have no connection to reality.

A real bust.

I rated this pretty good, but I have now found it rather forgettable, and do agree with some of the excellent points you make here about the staging. Not nearly as good as was promised.
